Smala, Nomadic Choreographic Laboratories in the Mediterranean

At the heart of the project: To meet diverse energies, writings, and artistic expressions and connect them through hip hop as a unifying thread. Thus, Smala, as a traveling project, will anchor itself in creative territories through nomadic choreographic laboratories. “Our ambition is to create constellations of artists and cultural actors who work together on common projects, big or small.”

Founded in 1995, Casamémoire is a Moroccan cultural association dedicated to preserving 20th-century architectural heritage in Morocco.
Three 5-day workshops, scheduled between December 2024 and May 2025, will take place at various locations throughout the city. These workshops aim to promote a dialogue between dance and historical architecture, breathing new life into historic sites.

These laboratories are co-constructed with each partner. From choreographic workshops to dance film creation, from rehearsal rooms to public spaces, from urban environments to enhancing heritage through dance, from experimental laboratories to creating small choreographic forms, from creative workshops to public mediation workshops: each has its own identity and adapts to the local context. They can meet various objectives as long as they focus on creativity, transmission, sharing, and creating connections.
